FIFTH International Sonic Convention - July 7 - Brighton, UK

GUEST: Sonic Team Head, Takashi Iizuka

Ladies and gentlemen, the king is back! We’re honoured to announce that Takashi Iizuka, leader of the Sonic Team in Japan, will be a special guest at the Summer of Sonic 2012.

Iizuka-san first appeared at Summer of Sonic in 2011, to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary alongside fans. After the event, he told us that he had a fantastic time – so much so that he wants to come back and do it all over again!

Having been involved with the Sonic the Hedgehog series since Sonic 3 on the Sega Mega Drive, Iizuka-san certainly knows what makes the blue blur tick. He has most recently produced a string of successful titles consisting of Sonic Colours, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, Sonic Generations and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II.

Fans will be able to meet with Iizuka-san on the day, and be able to watch a Q&A on stage where he will answer a selection of questions. More details on the Q&A – as well as how you can get your question answered – will be announced shortly.

    Questions for Takashi Iizuka

    1) Please could you clear up the story of Silver, Blaze and Eggman Nega.
In Sonic Rush, Blaze and Eggman Nega come from an alternate dimension.
In Sonic Rivals, Silver and Eggman Nega come from the future.
In Sonic 2006, Silver and Blaze are partners from the future.
In Sonic Colours Silver and Blaze have never met each other. Blaze comes from an alternate dimension and Silver comes from the future.
What is the true story of these characters?

    2) Please could you clear up the story of the Chaos Emeralds.
In Sonic 1, there are six Chaos Emeralds. They are small-sized and hexagon shaped.
In Sonic 2, there are seven emeralds.
In Sonic 3, Sonic has seven emeralds, but Knuckles is also said to be the Guardian of Emeralds on Angel Island.
In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the emeralds change into giant diamond-shaped Super Emeralds. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles can use them to change into Super/Hyper forms.
In all other games, the emeralds keep the Super Emerald shape but are still called Chaos Emeralds. Sonic can no longer turn hyper and Tails and Knuckles cannot transform at all.
In Sonic the Fighters there are 8 emeralds!
Please explain the story behind the changes to the Emeralds.

  13. Nicholas says:

Sweet!!! I hope I get to meet him this year as they cut the line off last year! :(

    • Katzii says:

Hopefully if they do let people meet him again, the lines will be better monitored to make sure selfish people don’t take up his time by getting him to sign like, a dozen things.

  14. Claire says:

Whoop! I was lucky enough to get my sos t-shirt signed by him last year. We qued for a bout 40 mins before it was officially announced…! Well worth it though. V nice guy! ^v^

  15. SonicGeek says:

I so badly want to go, I’ve never been before. Plus I really want to ask about future Sonic games, maybe any movies and see if there’s any future references to Sonic’s past C=
