FIFTH International Sonic Convention - July 7 - Brighton, UK

The Summer of Sonic Cosplay Contest Returns!

Cosplay Image

We are delighted to announce the return of a fan favourite event for 2012′s convention… Yes, the cosplay contest is back! Do you have the swiftness of Sonic, the technical know-how of Tails or the strength of Storm? If you have a passion for cosplay then we’d love to see your creations at the event!

The contest has gone from strength to strength since its introduction, and we expect 2012 to be the biggest year yet. This year heralds the introduction of a panel of three staff judges for the contest, but we want you, the audience, to help us! Just like previous years we want you to cheer as loud as you can for your favourite costume on stage. Those cheers will equal all-important points!

If you’d like to enter the contest, sign-up sheets will be present from opening time. We’ll make sure they are easy to find! You will be given a group number upon sign up. At 2:30pm signups will close and the group elimination stages will take place with the best costumes from each group going through to the final. The final ten cosplayers will be called to the stage at 4:30pm, where the overall winner will be announced! We will announce when and where each group is due to gather, so keep hold of your number and come along when we call you!

We will have a fantastic prize for the overall winner on the day, and a little Flicky tells me there may be a mysterious fourth guest judge with more prizes to give out… You’ll have to wait and see what we have planned, but we think you’ll love it!

I see things are being done differently this year…I approve very much as it should add a bit of spice to this year’s celebrations :D I can’t wait *starts learning lines from various Sonic games to say during competition*

  2. Madeline says:

May I ask a stupid question, do u have to say anything in the cosplay contest because I feel like I need to learn some lines

    • Nemain says:

Hey there! Don’t feel silly, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. :)

There will not be time for proper performances (or “skits”) in the final, but there’s nothing wrong with acting like your character. In fact, that’s what we want to see! People can learn a few lines and things if they would like to but there is no requirement to learn anything to enter the contest – We just want to see your wonderful costume work and we want you to have fun! All we will ask you is your name, who you’re cosplaying and to tell us a bit about your costume. :)

  3. Spikey says:

    Can’t wait!!!!! XD

  4. Dr-Spudhead says:

Different eh? Well it mean I’m going to try really hard now! Good luck guys!

  5. Danbuster says:

Maybe Professor Pickle will make a comeback… ;)
Depends how I feel – and whether my tickets from the second wave actually get sent?

  6. James Hunt says:

I know who else is going to be in it. One STC character back from the dead.

  7. ScourgeTheHedgehog says:

I can’t wait! I’ve been planning my costume for a while now, I’m still in process of getting some of the gear (yep I’m going as Scourge :D) so I better get a move on! :D

  8. Dr-Spudhead says:

Question: Will the group stages collide with any other events during the day? I’d hate to miss a signing whilst they go on.

    • Nemain says:

There will be multiple chances to get things signed during the day and each group in the elimination stage will not take more than about five minutes to have the best one or two chosen. Do not worry, you will not miss anything!

  9. Joao says:

    Hey there!
looking foward to the convention a lot and I can’t wait to go!! =D
Just wondering, will there be a singing contest aswell?

  10. Callum says:

Hi Nemain, one question. My kids are begging to come, can kids go to?

    • Nemain says:

      Hello there!

Yes, children are welcome to enter the cosplay contest as much as adults – We’d advise very young children to bring a parent on stage for support should they make the final 10.

If you’re looking for tickets for the event, the last wave goes up for grabs tomorrow evening. Again, children are welcome, but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult or parent/guardian. Be sure to check the news page for more details, and good luck if you are going for tickets!

  11. Ryan Rodriguez says:

I want an alluring, excellently designed AND acted-out Rouge the Bat, Amy, and/or Blaze this year. You know, why lie? I’m a furry; I like/love the aforementioned characters (among others, of course); and I’m a twenty-year-old guy with… *feelings*.

    I’ll have my eyes open.

  12. Furianu says:

Well, if there’s someone coming with a Tails cosplay I’ll probably hug him <3

  13. shadowhatesomochao says:

ah man, I wish I could travel and join the contest with my Sonic cosplay, but the head is just to big to take it with from Germany into the bus XD

  14. Hi there

Lol! You just had to use that photo of me looking like Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters XD

Well, the way the cosplay contest will play out this year does seem interesting. Good luck to all those entering.

  15. 01SonAmy01 says:

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could answer this. Sorry, I’m a bit confused. You can only buy two tickets, right? And under 15′s have to be accompanied by an adult (it says at the bottom), does that mean you have to buy that adult a ticket? Someone please answer! :(

    • Nemain says:

      Hello there!

Groups are limited to two people per group for the second and third waves, you are correct. If you had a family of four there’s nothing stopping you getting two group tickets but the names would need to be different.

Yes, you will need to add that adult to the group ticket – Every entrant, regardless of accompanying or attending, needs their own ticket. Hope this helps, and good luck with the final wave!

      • 01SonAmy01 says:

Thank you very much for your reply :) My friend and I are both 16 so that should be fine, right?
Also, I got an e-mail saying that my application was received, but am I right in saying that I haven’t necessarily got the tickets? When will I know if it’s gone through? Thanks a lot! :)

        • 01SonAmy01 says:

Oh, okay never mind I got the ticket!! :D But just to confirm, my friend and I are both 16 so that’s fine, isn’t it?

  16. Stand back because Johnny Lightfoot from Sonic the Comic is coming to SOS 2012.

  17. Danbuster says:

Turns out a bit awkward for me this year. I’ll only be able to stay until 4pm, so Professor Pickle will have to leave early without entering the finals.
