FIFTH International Sonic Convention - July 7 - Brighton, UK

Wave 1 of Tickets – Gone in 180 Seconds!

We are happy – also proud, flabbergasted and excited – to reveal that Wave 1 of Summer of Sonic 2012 tickets have sold out in a space of just three minutes! Ticket registrations were opened at 12:30 BST, and closed at around 12:33. We were so surprised we had to spend some time double (and triple) checking the entries to see if they were all legitimate.

They were. Summer of Sonic 2012 is already becoming the hottest convention we’ve ever held (in terms of popularity, of course – we think 2011 hold the record for temperature), and we’re so incredibly psyched that all of you really want to come and spend the day with your fellow Sonic fan.

We’re still reeling, but we wanted to answer some popular questions we’ve received and make things clear about where we go from here. Please give it a read – if you have any further questions, ask in the comments box below and we’ll try to either answer it for you.

Sold out!? In only three minutes!?

We’re just as stunned at the amazing demand for tickets as you are, believe us! Nobody could have predicted how popular this year’s event was going to be. In 2011 – a year where we hosted Yuji Naka and Takashi Iizuka for Sonic’s 20th Anniversary – a total of around 700 reservations had ‘sold out’ in just under ten hours.

Compare that with 400 tickets this year, in three minutes. Wow!

We are aware that, due to the phenomenally unprecedented demand, many fans have missed out this time around. We can only apologise to those that were not quick enough to register in time – but it just goes to show how much of an impact this small community event has had in just five years! Thank you all for your support!

Why were the tickets delayed by 30 minutes?

Unfortunately, we had hit a technical issue right at the last minute, and had to inform eager fans that the tickets would be released 30 minutes later than expected. However, we did inform everyone via our official Twitter account and on the official Facebook Page. Tickets were released dead-on 12:30 British Summer Time, as promised.

How do I know my ticket application was successful?

Your ticket application page would have refreshed, and a green box would have appeared with a message saying your application had been processed. You will also have received an automated email almost immediately after hitting ‘Submit’. If you are sure you had a successful application but did not receive an email, please check your Spam folder.

I need to change my details!

Your confirmation email came with a URL that you can click to return to your ticket application, should you wish to make any changes.

My email says my application was successful, but I’ve not had my ticket sent yet.

Tickets will be sent via email in a matter of weeks, before the Summer of Sonic convention takes place. We won’t have forgotten about you in that time, don’t worry. You can always go back to your ticket application page – via the URL given to you in your confirmation email – to see the status of your application, so you know when tickets have been sent out to you.

What will happen to duplicate ticket applications?

We will be combing through each application for duplicates and inconsistencies. Duplicate entries will be freed and the number of tickets ordered will be added to the second wave of tickets. We’re not letting any spares go to waste!

Why was there a link to the Register Tickets page at 11:59, which then disappeared?

We were testing how the page would look before we released the tickets to the public. This link only appeared for a split second, and anyone who clicked on that link would not have had an unfair advantage to obtain tickets. Anyone who tried to access the registration page before 12:30 would have been greeted with a message saying “We’re Not Open Yet!”

How many waves of tickets will there be?

Two.

When will Wave 2 of Summer of Sonic tickets be released?

We will announce details of Wave 2 next week.

Update: 14 May 2012

I registered for more tickets than I need/I can’t come to Summer of Sonic anymore! What do I do?

If you have tickets that you no longer need, please make sure you contact us at support@summerofsonic.com and let us know! We want to make sure as many people are able to come as possible – so help your fellow Sonic fan and email us so we can make your tickets available to someone else.

Due to unexpected and overwhelming demand, we cannot respond to any requests for tickets to Summer of Sonic 2012 – through our support email address or any other means of contact. The only way to obtain tickets is through our ticket registration process. Thank you for your understanding.

I/A friend put multiple names on the ticket registration form. Do we get multiple tickets?

There is an option to include additional people on the ticket registration form. This will tell us that you are coming to Summer of Sonic as part of a Group. When tickets are issued, the name of the Ticket Registrant (the person who filled in the form) and the names of the additional people entered will have their names printed on one Group Ticket.

Because Groups will only get one ticket instead of multiple individual ones, you must ensure that all members of the Group are present with the Ticket Registrant at the door, otherwise the additional Group members may not be allowed in! Please plan your day accordingly.

Will those who successfully registered tickets in Wave 1 be able to enter Summer of Sonic 2012 any earlier than Wave 2 registrants?

No. There will be only one line for entry.

What happens if I don’t get a ticket in Wave 2?

Due to space concerns, and the overwhelming demand for this year’s event, Summer of Sonic 2012 will be a ticket-only event. A valid ticket must be presented at the door to be allowed entry into the convention. Groups must all be in attendance and must accompany the Ticket Registrant (the person who actually filled the details in on the registration form) on the door to be allowed entry, as only one ticket will be provided per Group.

In the past, we have allowed entry to non-ticket holders whenever there was space available. We can no longer do this due to the increasing popularity of the convention, and the growing complexities of organising the event as a result.

I’ve applied for my ticket – so when does Summer of Sonic 2012 open and close?

The exact details have not been locked down yet, so we cannot be specific, but you can assume that we will not open earlier than 10am and we will not close later than 8pm. If you need to make travel arrangements for the day, please use these times as a guide for arrivals and departures.

You say email support@summerofsonic.com… but I got my notification from support@sonicstadium.org!

That is a strange one! We actually forgot about setting up an email address until the last minute, so in the end we went with the sonicstadium.org address so we could be sure any replies would reach us. Any emails from now on will be sent from summerofsonic.com. If you want to contact us, either address will work, but sonicstadium.org may take longer to get a reply as your message will go into a different inbox.

  1. Well done guys, you’ve come on a long way since 2006! I got my ticket with a friend, then registered for another friend too. She has no internet at the moment, but luckily got it done in the 3 minutes. Shows it could be done, gotta go fast!

  2. JoelxSonic says:

Same with Shauna Duggan so happy I reserved mine and 2 memebers of family.

  3. Claire says:

Well done guys! Well done! :)

  4. So happy I got my 2 tickets :D I felt like I had hit some speed shoes, heck, even the music I was playing in the background seemed to speed up :D Congrats to the others that got the other 398, and good luck next time to others for wave 2 :D Think of it as though you got to act 2 and The other 400 people didn’t :3

  5. Jaden says:

I filled out the application and submitted it straight away.
Why didn’t I get my tickets?

  6. simon h says:

yeah, but people could still keep that page open and refresh it giving them an unfair advantage. plus someone on here posted the link before 12:30 (you know who you are) giving others an unfair advantage. shouldn’t have the moderators picked up on this and removed it since it shouldn’t have been posted by anyone.

    • Major Ziggy says:

Everyone else could just as easily check the comments page and see the link there and all. Unfair advantage? Regular refreshing every couple of seconds, and clicking on registration link barely takes 5 seconds depending on your internet connection, and even so, link was there, still couldn’t get tickets until 12:30. There was no such thing as unfair advantage. If the link was removed as you suggested, then ironically you have a better case.

      • Fedup Sonic fan says:

Sorry to say the whole thing was a shambles. I have been at the last 2 but this was awful. We ended up with one of us with a ticket, one doesn’t and we are stuck with train tickets and hotel, so over £200 at risk on wave 2. We bought the travel tickets early to try to save money as it was taking so long for Sonic tickets to come out and the train prices were going up every week. Hope wave 2 is better.

  7. sheezy93 says:

i must get ticket when wave 2 come! i need to know what time xD and this time i must take it seriously!
im glad there is another chance for us to get tickets ^^ you have no idea how stressful for people not getting tickets!

but im not sure one thing.. if wave 2 will going to be sold quickly like today, will there be wave 3 or that it? it better not be like that! please reply as soon as possible ^^

    • bmn says:

Wave 2 will likely be the last one. We currently have enough registrations for a little over half of our ticketed places, so Wave 2 should have less than 400 places available.

      • sheezy93 says:

aw nut :C well thank you very much for answer my question :) (hug) i hope i’ll get ticket for my dad, mum, lil bro, my lil bro’s friend and me ^^

i hope it wont sold too fast, we need more time D:

        • Mike Langlois says:

You can only book a group of up to 4 people, so might wanna decide how to split that party now lol

  8. 273 says:

Both me and my father both believe that those who have been to previous SOS events should of had priority booking. For me, SOS is one of the only times in the year where I can actually meet up with my fellow Sonic fans that I have met over the internet, and actually converse with them. To not be able to see them because you seemingly randomly decided to decrease the capacity, therefore decreasing the opportunity for those of us that are slow typers to actually book tickets due to speedy sales, of what you are calling ‘The best SOS since the beggining’ is reversed logic. What happened to the talk of getting a venue that could hold 2000 people?

    • Dreadknux says:

Doing anything other than release tickets on a first-come, first-served basis is reversed logic, sadly. The point of Summer of Sonic is for everyone to come together and have a good time. If we reserved a large chunk of space for those who had only attended the event before, that would be unfair to those who had only just heard about the event and want to make new friends.

I understand the situation is frustrating, but due to reasons that we are not willing to disclose publically, we had to change our location and venue needs, as was announced on the Summer of Sonic website. We could either enjoy the fact that a free public event specially for Sonic fans continues to be made, or complain that a group of fans (and a company that has limited budget) can’t afford to spend tens of thousands of pounds hiring a much larger space.

      • Mike Langlois says:

Dont give people the option Dreadknux, this it the internet, all people love to do is complain. :P

  9. Adam Forsbrook says:

Why cant wave 2 be released sooner? Why cant some more be released today for the people who tried today…as people who have missed out and made today there chance to get some…but hey ho, like I say I’m sure a lot of people today who didn’t get one wont get one next time as luck of the draw which is a shame as some people will of tried several times. I was up 2 hours before and was on registration bang on 12.00

Also how many WAVES? As apparently Brighton Centre only holds 800 or so people?

  10. Rosie McKean says:

180 seconds ??? I was done with filling in & submitting within 30 seconds !! Still didnt get any tickets ! :(

  11. sonicluigifan says:

Dammit, I got on the page, clicked the button, which didn’t say all tickets had been sold out, then 5 seconds later, they has all sold out! I’m too slow!!

  12. ScourgeTheHedgehog says:

Phew! Glad to know it wasn’t a glitch of why the tickets sold so quickly, I was one of the lucky ones who managed to register! :D

  13. marcustherocker says:

WHAT!? A week’s wait until wave 2? Oh well no use crying over scattered rings :-) The wait will be worth it as I know that whatever happens, I will get my ticket as I do not plan on leaving my computer on the day of wave 2 registration

  14. simon h says:

@Major Ziggy for those who went away and weren’t going to check the site until 12:30 it is an unfair advantage.

    • Major Ziggy says:

I’m sorry for those who were unlucky but if they really really wanted to go they should have stayed on the ball. Can’t take potentially high demand lightly. Also I thought everyone would keep up with the comments made as they do on SSMB during a major Sonic event like the Sonic 4 E2 for instance.

    • Dreadknux says:

Going away and not checking the site is not something that we are in control of. If you wanted tickets that badly, you should have waited at that computer. Sorry.

  15. Necros says:

I have a question. What if, because of the fact the tickets will get snapped up within 30 secs (it might’ve taken you 180 seconds to process all the applications coming in, but trust me, it closed before then) you need to apply for a low number of tickets?

I’m asking because I’m wondering if something could happen like say applying for three people on one group ticket when there only are two tickets left means you get the whole thing rejected rather than being given the two tickets. Because I can see that becoming a huge problem where a lot of groups try to get the last remaining tickets and there’s a bias in favor of single people only filling out one single form for each person.

    • Adam Forsbrook says:

Got a point as I want several but thinking would it increase my chances by just getting 1 ticket and going alone LOL

    • bmn says:

We haven’t been limiting how many you can get based on how many are left, so no need to worry on that front. :)

  16. Nicholas says:

I’ll be contacting you folks shortly about 2 tickets we no longer need since the URL provided won’t let us remove two of our people (including myself D:) who won’t be able to make it, the Group leader however is still going, if that makes it any easier

  17. Too fast for the naked eye! SOS ticket claims!

  18. 1Ultima says:

    Hi.
When it says about ID does it have to be an drivers licence or a passport?
    Because I havent got neither.
Will I be alowed to come?

  19. Hannah says:

Aww…My frind Georgia’s gunna kill me…I Really need thouse wave 2 tickets. Wish me good luck guys!

  20. simon h says:

sadly if the situation is the same as the second wave and ticket situation is the same in the years to come. I’ll no longer be interested in SOS and you won’t have my continued support, just too much hassel and causes too much disappointment.Shame really cos i really enjoyed the last 3 years.

  21. Daisoku says:

I got on there immediately, filled it in, and got tickets for me, my sister, mum and dad. >w>; It’s just a matter of being quick.

  22. I hope I can get some tickets in the second wave, if I can’t unfortunatly I won’t be able to come :(

  23. Celestial_Wolf says:

My advice for all who didn’t get tickets the first time.

Have you details you need written (As in Name, Email, Contact Number and Address) pre-written out and get ready to copy and paste them into the form on the registration page. And be quick about it to, second wave might go even faster. Pretty much Refresh Spam the page around the time. If you want to go, you must be fast like Sonic and send the application in at Super Sonic speeds.

Good luck to all those in the second wave. If you get in, I’ll see you at in Brighton for the Summer of Sonic.

    • jonathan tranter says:

THATS WHAT I DID and it rejected me because i had spaces in my contact number witch was really unfair if it had accepted i would have got a bloody ticket :(

  24. domflo says:

Hey Dreadknux, just one question. I’m not quite sure if I entered the right name in the form, because it wasn’t quite clear for me if my parents hat to enter my name or one of their names. From what I understood, it can be changed, so I would like to know what I have to do now.

    • domflo says:

      *had, actually

    • bmn says:

Hey domflo. If you check the email you should’ve received, it’ll have a link to the form, and you can change the details and submit it again.

      • domflo says:

Thanks for the reply. I know, however, that I can change the stuff, my problem is that I don’t know if I have to change it or not. In other words, the name that needed to be filled in has to be mine, even if I’m not 18? Or does it have to be one of my parents’ names?

  25. RikaFurude says:

Quite surprised that I managed to get 5 tickets :D
    180 seconds!??!? F5, you’re my hero :)

  26. Ellie says:

Well done guys, it just goes to show how much people appreciate your hard work as they continue to support you on these amazing events. Thank you so much for everything x

  27. sonicwalter says:

damn you guys in 3 minutes. please save me 2 cuz i need one for my mate aswell

  28. Angelica says:

    Aw….I was too late :’c

  29. Danbuster says:

One question still unanswered… those of us desperate to get tickets, but failing in the first wave – suppose we then chase after tickets in the second wave but STILL fail, and yet we want to get in.
How will we get into SOS if we can’t get the tickets, due to there being too few for us all to get?

    • domflo says:

While I understand your worries, that question isn’t a particular good one, is it? If you don’t have tickets, you won’t get in, simple as that. I has been stated before that this year will be ticket only. I wish you the best of luck getting a ticket though.

  30. awesomeguy100 says:

what if we dont get tickets? I couldn’t last year so I didn’t actually get in. Please tell me, I don’t want to be dissapointed again.

  31. Purp120 says:

Hey, I was wondering, can anybody give me a ruff time that the doors will be open. I need to book my train tickets in advance so that I get the as cheap as possible. You see, I live in London, and need to know what time the doors open so that I don’t arrive too late or too early. Thanks!^^

  32. The Blue Striker says:

    3 Minutes?! Well done guys

  33. Aidan J says:

*Phew* I’m so glad, I managed to get tickets.
I stood waiting with my friend last year for over 5 hours to get in.
I’m glad I won’t have to do that again. I don’t know what I would have done without him, we had to keep queue holding so we could go for toilet breaks etc.

While I am very glad to have tickets, as I am a huge Sonic fan, and I don’t have a problem with the T&Cs, I think they should definitely have been made available prior to the registration page going live.
Users were forced to order tickets and legally agree to them, without reading them, or face missing the event due to the time taken to read them.

That’s my only problem so far though. Looking forward to this year’s event, should be great!!

  34. Sheila says:

I’m confused as I got the green box and the side bar said that registration was successful but still no email and I’ve checked and rechecked the spam box. So did I get tickets ?

  35. Leo says:

That’s insane its already started to make news http://einfogames.com/news/sonic-tickets-gone-in-less-than-3-mins/

Good luck to everyone for next week

  36. Nicholas says:

I do apologise AGAIN to the team working on tickets and such, but I’ve sent one last E-mail concerning the 4-person group ticket we ordered, this time about making it a 3-person one instead, again I am so sincerely sorry for all the hassle folks and this’ll be the last time I E-mail you, promise

    • Dreadknux says:

Absolutely no problem! If it means freeing up some space, we’re all for it! And thank you for getting in touch! :)

  37. Chunnandragon says:

Thank god me and my dad got these tickets in time! OH guys, i’m sooo excited i can’t! :D

  38. Dr Spudhead says:

Just curious, if you filled in the details but weren’t quick enough, are the details kept in case a ticket is freed up?

  39. Bethany and bryony marsh says:

I am so hopeing we get tickets in wave two cause this day means so much to my sister, bry, I mean it… I can’t believe that they sold out in just 3 inuets, I’m panicking in case we miss it again, cause I really want to get tickets so me and my sister can go, cause as I said, this day means the world to my sister; cause it’ll be out first con as well and she’ll be able to meet fellow sonic fans…

Gd luck to people who didn’t get tickets in the first wave…

  40. simon h says:

something tells me i won’t be able to get a ticket this year since they’ll probably be another mad rush. oh well, i’ll just use the money to spend the night in the sonic room at alton towers instead.

  41. Danbuster says:

Let’s hope the next wave has a more realistic number of reservations planned. 400 was clearly far from enough!

  42. FleetingDream88 says:

Quite amazing about how quickly they went.
    I just have to query about the email I received though after registration;

“We’ve just received your ticket application for the Summer of Sonic 2012. Right now it’s in a queue waiting for our reformed badniks to check for any problems”

This was just at 12:31, but is this the email that everyone received upon their successful registration?

    • Dreadknux says:

That will be the email that everyone receives, yes. Basically, your tickets are guaranteed – unless you change them or we find something fatally incorrect with them (which only really applies if we suspect we have a spam application or something – you’ll have nothing to worry about, being human and all). We just haven’t sent the tickets out yet – and we likely won’t until after Wave 2.

  43. Yellow says:

Just one thing for next year… PLEASE make venue announcing and ticket waves earlier (at least two months in advance, three months is better). People need to plan travels and hotels in advance, and when they do and after that hear that the venue is at a different place as expected, or worse, after all is set and booked miss out on a ticket to get into SoS, then that will not only be a disappointment, but also a huge loss of money.

    • Dreadknux says:

We hear you on that one! Obviously, you all know the reasons why we’ve timed things the way we have this year. Consider it a one-off! :)

  45. D21 says:

I was checking for tickets every minute… then there was a delay so I was checking every five minutes… I am such a fool!
Oh well I will just have to be more careful next time… Also how many tickets are you releasing? 400 + 400 (+70 aside for staff/special guests)?

  46. Spikey says:

Still recovering after yesterday! Managed to get my tickets! Now im gonna start planning cosplay stuff…..

  47. Spikey says:

Really Really good luck and speed shoes item boxes to those who are planning for wave 2 :)

  48. Shadey says:

My Mom registered for the tickets for her, me and two friends. Her details/name were in the registrant area. Does she get 4 or 3 tickets?

  49. shadowhatesomochao says:

    oh man!
    what is this??!!
I was online since 11:30 to get those tickets for me and my family, I have already booked a fly from Germany to London, just for the Summer of Sonic!
then finally it was up at 12:30…
I clicked the submit button at 12:34, because I had to read the rules and that stuff first before clicking something wrong… and then?! it says: sorry, but were already of out tickets!
    I mena… WTF!!
    this sucks :(
I hope I will get some tickets in wave 2… how many will be availabe then? 400 again?

    Hello there
i filled in my application and added an additional person, email, home address, etc, i clicked submit but it gave me the page saying sorry we’re out etc but if i clicked submit could i still expect something in future?

  53. Tom says:

Hey. About the group tickets, what would happen if say one member of the group were to not be able to make it to the convention due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances right which came up before the event (like falling ill for example)? Would the rest of the group get turned away at the door?

  54. Dr Robotnik says:

So how and WHERE do you register for tickets?!

    • Tom says:

Here on this site. You click on the big blue button at the top that says register tickets. (Well it’s covered by Wave 1 Sold Out, Wave 2 Announced Soon) but when wave 2 comes, click on it then. :D

  55. Darn…I hope I get one next time, or it’ll be the firt time in 3 years I won’t be able to go! :S

  56. BurningFox says:

There’s no chance that I’ll even get a ticket. No point anyway. Being from the North-East sucks. I can’t put into words how dissapointed I am. But hopefully, one year… I’ll be able to experience it. Until then, I’ll just have to keep updated with you guys…

  57. Aidan J says:

I bet wave 2 goes even faster than wave 1 xD

  58. Jason Wilkinson says:

Only 400 tickets it can be more than that like 1000 or greater (or over 9000) tickets I hope there is more than 400 tickets on wave 2
